Loneliness

Loneliness feels like you’re lost on an ocean with no one in sight,
Nothing but love will ever help to set things right.

Loneliness feels like you’re the last leaf on a tree,
Waiting for the moment you’ll be cut loose and set free.

Loneliness feels like you’re lost in a deep endless hole,
No one can reach you or save your soul.

Loneliness probably accounts for more hurt and pain
Than all the illnesses of which people complain.

How do you overcome this longing and need that you feel
To connect with someone who’ll set you again on an even keel?

Do you smother yourself and your needs in charitable work,
Does this help to heal the pain and the hurt?

As yet, I have no answer to this feeling we all have inside,
And keep hidden because we fear losing that villain… self-pride.

Would it be openly admitting that you can’t make it alone,
Or that you need someone to care and touch you, even if by phone?

Each day I ask, what’ll I do today to make time pass?
Go to town, shop, read, watch TV or just go get some gas.

That’s the way it goes when you’re alone and feel that you serve no need.
So remember this before you do your next self-satisfying deed.

Everyone needs someone in this world to survive,
It makes you happy and thankful for being alive.
